Day 9 - What a blur! 2 Sessions, BBQ, Slip and Slide
Today flew by. We had breakfast, packed into the vans for the 20 min ride to the practice fields, had a 2 hr morning training session, packed into the vans, drove back to the hotel, ate lunch, drove back to the fields, had a slightly shorter afternoon session, showered at the clubhouse (the local rugby team, the Druids, have 3 or 4 full size fields and an awesome clubhouse), then drove over to the house of one of our Canadian liaisons, Sue (and Wes), for an awesome BBQ.
Things I remember - PK letting one rip in lineout practice almost directly into Jamie's face. The ultimate players on the fields next to us with costumes on (Kathy complimented the outfit of a guy dressed as a schoolgirl and he had no idea what to say in response...it was funny), Baja pulling the hair out of the drain in the shower (go Baja!) after we were reprimanded for not cleaning up our mess, Kathy telling the fwds that their warm up would be hitting the scrum machine, me posing for a picture with all our Gatorade products in hopes of being their "poster girl", and of course the BBQ!!!
Highlights of the BBQ - their property was amazing, their house was beautiful, the food was amazing (the casserole was especially good), they had a room full of desserts, we took a walk around their acres with the dogs (they raise and race sled dogs), the kids who lived there were teasing Pam, trying to tackle her and steal her hat. I have to say that at some points, it looked like the kids got the best of her!
Most memorable thing of the day had to be experiencing the BEST SLIP AND SLIDE EVER!! At first there were rumors that we wouldn't be allowed to do it, but we were "cleared" and a few people decided to go in their jeans (but most of us changed into our bathing suits). It was the perfect downhill, with a long plastic sheet over some gentle bumps. With Carter and a few people taking turns hosing down the runway and with Hedwig applying dish soap on each of us (to make us go faster), we had a ball!
The BBQ overall was a wonderful way to relax and have fun together after our 2 sessions! Thank you so much to our hosts, Sue and Wes!
