Day 7 (Part II) - USA vs. England, Game and Fans

We get to the fields and we have an hour to wait before we warm up. Waiting before a game is really tough because you've been slowly building throughout the day and playing all your pump up songs in the van ride over. We had about an hour before our official warm-up started, so we watched some of the Samoa vs. Kazakhstan game, said hi to our fans, and then went to the practice field early.

Finally we started our warm-up and then before we knew it, we were running out onto the field. It was great to be singing the anthem with our large group of friends, family, and fans in the stands. It was a sea of red – many of our fans were wearing the "I rugby-ball USA" collectible t-shirts made by our NYRC teammates. They had tour tags, face paint and well-rehearsed cheers. G2 members (Gimps and Groupies) were in great form, with El Presidente and the VP issuing temporary membership cards and all.

The game was a hard-fought battle. Our first 50 minutes were quite outstanding; we came out on fire and put a lot of pressure on the English from the kick-off. We had some trouble with our set pieces, but our defense and level of physicality was quite good. Unfortunately, in the second half we had a few lapses, the ref had some questionable calls, we had a sin-bin, and England scored. All of this was at the end of the second half, with the final score of 18-0. The game is over, and it's now time to look towards our future games.

For more official information about our matches, our fan website does a great job - http://www.womeneagles.com/ (there's also a great picture there of our fans and the "sea of red")

That evening was fun – we were able to hang out with our fans in our hotel lounge for a bit. It was a nice change of pace to see familiar faces from home and to remember where we come from. We're all incredibly thankful that our families and our extended families (especially all our NYRC teammates!!!!) could be here to share this experience with us.
